North Borneo postal fiscal, 1886, 10c. on 50c. violet VARIETY SURCHARGE DOUBLE, unused without gum with light trace of red crayon at upper right, fine. ONLY THREE EXAMPLES OF THIS VERY RARE VARIETY ARE RECORDED (all of same centering): 1) the stamp offered here which is UNIQUE IN UNUSED CONDITION 2) a used copy with a central cancel ”KUDAT 6 DEC 1886” ex Naylor and Midas lot 446. 3) lightly cancelled by red KUDAT at right and a similar perforation at top as our stamp. This variety was missing in almost all major collections of this area including: Sir Gawaine, George Bloch, Danson, Wood, Shipman, Jacqui O, Taylor etc. Certificate BPA 2012.
