1929, GREAT RARITY OF THE USSR: wrapper from BERING ISLAND near Kamchatka, between Russia and the USA, send per registered mail with 2 K., 5 K. and 10 K. definitive issue 1927/29 by ship mail Kamchatka-Vladivostok the 7.5.1929 from A. Kardakov to his brother N. Kardakoff, to his working address of the German Entomological Institute in Berlin-Dahlem/Germany, which changed to Berlin-Charlottenburg, to which the letter was forwarded, with both cancellations on reverse. A. Kardakov was a well known Professor of Entomology/Zoology and a scientist collecting butterflies, who lived on Komandor Island. In 1938 he was killed by the Stalin regime. His brother N. Kardakoff stayed in Berlin and wrote 2 books about banknotes in Russia and the baltic states and was president of the Soviet Philatelic Organization in Germany. The famous V. Nabokev dedicated the poem ”Butterflies” to Professor A. Kardakov. The only known wrapper from BERING ISLAND, with newest certificate of the Russian expert N. Mandrovskiy in Russian language and a copy of an article about that letter in the Russian stamp magazine. (T)
