ENGLAND`S FIGHT AGAINST SLAVERY. 1838, EL from an officer on board of H.M.S. Pylades which was patroling the West Coast of Africa and chasing slave traders`ships which were trying to bring African slaves to the New World. The letter of William McPherson to his mother in Inverness/Scotland dates "At Sea 26 Feb 1838" and is endorsed "West Coast Africa 13 May 1838". It delivers a comprehensive report of his trip with plenty of details, explicitly are mentioned St.Helena (Jamestown), Ascension, St.Tomas and Princess Island, Fernando Poo, Benin River and Accra. London receiver 19 JUL on reverse. A very rare and truly important document of the operations of the British Fleet in the Atlantic Ocean during the times of slavery!
