1869, III. emission, 80 c rose, 10 c orange and 5 c blue, tied by the dotted papal grill to letter from ROMA 6 GIU 69 to HEREDIA/ Costa Rica m/s endorsed via St. Naziare and Panana (British post office mark on front). The letter shows a black framed P.P. (indicating being paid to the port od disembarkation) and a blue m/s 2 indicating 2 reales charged on delivery. A blue french transit mark ”St. Michel” and French ships post marks on the reverse allow the complete reconstruction of the route this letter has taken, see the attached certificate by Mario Mentaschi for details. Also attached a certificate by Bottacchi. THIS IS THE ONLY LETTER KNOWN FROM ANY OF THE OLD ITALIAN STATES TO COSTA RICA.
1869, III. emissione, 80 c rosa lillaceo, 10 c arancio vermiglio e 5 c azzuro chiaro, annullati mediante tre impronte di un bollo muto a losange sulla lettera da ROMA 6 GIU 69 a HEREDIA/Costa Rica via San Naziare e Panana (bollo dell'ufficio postale britannico sul fronte). La lettera riporta un P.P. in cartella (che indica il pagamento al porto di sbarco) e un ”2” manoscritta in azzuro indica 2 reales addebitati alla consegna. Un bollo di transito francese ”St. Michel” e al retro i bolli delle navi francesi permettono la ricostruzione completa del percorso di questa lettera, vedi il certificato allegato di Mario Mentaschi per i dettagli.
