1844/1850 Two entire letters to Cognac, France with 1) 1844 letter from New York, dated '18 April 44', ”FORWARDED FROM/HARDEN S/Package Express & Foreign/Letter Office/No.2 Wall St. New York” (oval h/s in red, later than recorded by Rowe) via Boston by Cunard steamer ”Britannia”, bearing rect. framed ”COLONIES/&c ART.12” h/s in red, English and French (Paris) transit datestamps as well as '18 June 44' arrival cds, and 2) 1850 letter from Boston, dated '4th Sep. 1850', sent by Cunard steamer ”Europa” via England, Calais and Paris, bearing rect. framed ”COLONIES/&c ART.13” h/s in red, red ”PAID”, English and French (Paris) transit datestamps as well as '19 Sep 44' arrival cds. (It was discussed whether the French 'Colonies Art...' handstamps could have been applied at St. Thomas, Danish West Indies, but as there is no other postmark, like St. Thomas landing cds, we are not able to confirm this possibility.)
