1807, Kontinentalsperre, Brief aus Portugal über London, Husum/Tönning (Dänemark), Hamburg nach Riga. Post aus England nach Nordeuropa (außer in skandinavische Länder) wurde in geschlossenem Beutel über die Harwich-Tönnig oder -Husum-Route ans bergische Postamt in Hamburg gesandt, von dort dann weiter nach Russland. Mit rotem Tintenvermerk ”L” für Post aus London. Dazu ein weiterer Brief aus 1805 über die England-Dänemark-Route, ebenfalls mit ”L”-Vermerk für Londoner Post. 1807, Continental System: letter from Portugal via London, Husum/Tönnig (Denmark) and Hamburg to Riga. Mails from England to the northern parts of Europe (except for Scandinavian countries) were sent in a closed bag via Husum or Tönnig, then processed to the post office of the Grand Duchy of Berg at Hamburg where it entered the mails to Russia. The red ink mark ”L” indicated London mails. Plus another 1805 letter via the England-Denmark post route also showing the ”L” mark for mails originating from London. (M)
