1919, six items (inc. 4 covers, one small cover/contents and 1 mimeograph) from or related to Rudolf Racher, POW in POW-camp II Baon, Nikolsk-Ussurisk, Primorskaja Oblast. Apparently his letters were forwarded in small envelopes to Petropavlovsk and mailed via normal franked civilian mail. Postmarked Petropavlovsk to Glarus/Switzerland: 1) franked 70 K. tied ”PETROPAVLOVSK 2-1-1919” to reverse of envelope with japanese censormark ”inspected/5” of Kobe/Japan, transit Paris and french censortape/tie-mark and arrival ”GLARUS 23 IV 19”. Inc. letter dated 1-1-1919. 2) franked 50 K. (pair) tied ”PETROPAVLOVSK 15 7 19” endorsed ”Switzerland via Vladivostok - USA”, russian censortape and censormark of Vladivostok, arr. ”GLARUS 15.IX.19”. No contents. 3) contents only, small envelope with letter dated 23.8.19. 4) franked 20 K., 50 K. tied ”PETROPAVLOVSK 25-9-1919” as before w. ms arrival note ”rec. 10. November 1919” inc. contents letter dated 25.9.19. 5) franked 50 K. (pair) tied ”PETROPAVLOVSK 7-10-1919” as above, includes small empty envelope and ms. arrival note ”rec. 14.XI 1919” 6) mimeographed letter by Chr. Neuwirth (among Glarus addressees of above envelopes) dated 14.11.19, to one Guido Tarabochia, Bregenz/Austria mentioning letter of Racher dated Aug. 23 but heavily censored and parts torn off (see above 3). Also mentions letter (see above 3) requesting various pieces of clothing. Highly interesting documentation of postal cirumstances in Siberia were forwarding via civilian mails was preferable in view of time in transit (one letter mentions a ”Lieutenant R. R.” as fwd. agent in Petropavlovsk). (T)
