1859, Buenos Aires, 1 p deep blue, horizontal tête-bêche pair, Sperati reproduction type A and B, ungummed, four large margins, very fine, signed ”Jean de Sperati” in pencil on reverse. This Sperati reproduction of one of philately's great rarities is amongst the scarcest of his works. The original stamp owned by the most outstanding collectors Caspary, Ferrari, Lichtenstein, Boker amongst others is presumed to be lost. It was the unique horizontal tête-bêche of this issue known. This Sperati formed part of the famous collection of Dr. Carl Walske, one of the foremost connaisseurs of Sperati's work and included many items which were purchased directly from the Sperati family that had not been seen previously. Only very few horizontal Sperati reproductions of this tête-bêche exist.
